The pictures that are never taken.

This was a series I did for class based on the concept that photographs are only taken during happily posed moments and never during sadness and sorrow.  These pictures are personal in several ways. They portray some of my own lower moments in life as well as what I would imagine most people do or feel when they are depressed.  It's also personal because of how depression in the form of mental illness is prominent in my family.

Michelle

This is the first roll of black and white film that I shot and developed myself.  You can tell from all the dust and scratches I didn't keep very good care of them.  I've had the negatives in my possession for about a year now and I just got around to scanning them in.  I still think they're beautiful photos of my good friend Michelle Bartlett.

I like throwing people out of their comfort zones.  My roommate Kristi is usually found in pants and long shirts.  So I put her in this tiny dress and did her hair and make-up.  She hates these pictures, but they ended up being the some of the best portraits I've done. These were all taken with black and white film.
